The Effect of Growth Regulators and a Biostimulator on the Health Status, Yield and Yield Components of Potatoes (Solanum tuberosum L.)

Abstract: In this study, the influence of potato cultivars Irga, Satina, Valfi, Blaue St. Galler and Highland Burgundy Red (HB Red), growth regulators: Bio-Algeen S-90, Kelpak SL and Trifender WP, and the biostimulator Asahi SL on the health status of potato plants and tuber yield was investigated. The severity of late blight and early blight was estimated during the growing season. After harvest, potato tuber yield was determined according to size fractions. The applied treatments significantly reduced the severity of … Show more

“…Two of the analyzed potato cultivars, Irga (cream-colored flesh) and Satina (yellowcolored flesh), are registered on the Polish National List of Agricultural Plant Varieties, and three cultivars, Valfi, Blaue St. Galler (blue-purple-colored flesh) and Highland Burgundy Red-HB Red (red-colored flesh), are listed in the European Common Catalogue of Varieties of Agricultural Plant Species. The soil, climate and agronomic conditions of the experiment have been described elsewhere (Głosek-Sobieraj et al 2018). Seed potatoes were planted in heated soil, 40 cm apart, with inter-row spacing of 67.5 cm.…”

“…In the current experiment, the content of the analyzed chlorogenic acids increased in response to inoculation with P. infestans in both the control treatment and the treatment with Trifender WP; were higher in wet years of 2013 and 2014 (weather conditions were conducive to the infections by pathogen) than in the dry year of 2015 [Głosek--Sobieraj et al 2018]. The strongest correlation between the analyzed factors was observed in the first year of the study (r = 0.31 in the control treatment and r = 0.35 in the treatment with Trifender WP) (Fig.…”

“…Potatoes were planted by 23 to 30 April, and were harvested by 26 to 28 August. Pathogens and pests were controlled chemically, and weeds mechanically [23]. The tubers (35-50 mm, after harvest and 5 months of storage) were peeled (skin thickness 3-4 mm) and cubed.…”
