Abstract: Dihydro-Beta-agarofuran sesquiterpenoids are a structurally diverse class of natural products based on tricyclic 5,11-epoxy-5Beta,10alpha-eudesman-4-(14)-ene skeleton. Between January 1990 and June 2006, 462 new dihydro-Beta-agarofuran sesquiterpenoids of 74 structural types have been isolated from about 64 species of Celastraceae, 3 species of Hippocrateaceae and one species of Lamiaceae. The present review covers the chemical and biological activity research of dihydro-Beta-agarofuran sesquiterpenoids in the… Show more

“…Pristimerin is a quinonemethide triterpenoid compound that has long been used as anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antimalarial, and insecticidal agents (Brinker et al, 2007;Gao et al, 2007). Although pristimerin recently has been shown to induce apoptosis in certain cancer cells, the cell death mechanism by pristimerin is largely unknown.…”

“…1) Pristimerin, a naturally occurring quinoneme thide triterpenoid compound, is a traditional medicine derived from the Celastraceae and Hippocrateacea families and has long been used as an anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antima larial, and insecticidal agent. 2,3) Some of the plants containing pristimerin, such as Maytenus chuchuhuasca and Maytenus laevis, have been used traditionally to treat arthritis and skin cancer in South America. 4) Pristimerin has promising clinical potential as both a therapeutic and chemopreventive agent for various cancers.…”

“…Quinonemethide triterpenoids isolated from T. regelii such as celastrol, iguestein, pristimerin, and tingenone are reported to possess several biological activities such as anticancer, anti-inflammatory, antimalarial, antioxidant, antiviral, and insecticidal activities (Luo et al 2005;Brinker et al 2007;Gao et al 2007;Su et al 2009;Ryu et al 2010) as well as antifungal activity (Dos Santos et al 2010). Furthermore, these triterpenoids induced an increase in intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) and mitochondrial dysfunction (Byun et al 2009), and the quinonemethide moiety with electrochemical potential is regarded as a key component of the triterpenoid (Ryu et al 2010).…”
