“…Similarly, among treated groups, the TCMBS3 group demonstrating superior expression in CAT after 4 weeks. In agreement with the present study, increased expression of antioxidant genes in MINT have been reported in other olive flounder, Paralichthys olivaceus and tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus (Heo et al., ; Qiang et al., ) after feeding multispecies herbal or probiotic diets. Work carried out on TGF‐β indicates it plays crucial roles in regulating fish immune responses (Standen et al., ; Vaidya & Kale, ).…”

“…It has been documented that b-defensins act as the first barrier of defence against viral and bacterial infections (Dong et al, 2015) while lysozyme expression shows evidence of innate immune action acting against bacterial infection (Qiang et al, 2016). A previous study in Gift tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus (Qiang et al, 2016) Vaidya & Kale, 2015). Our results indicated that TGF-b in tilapia MINT in TCMBS3 group after 2 weeks and in all treated groups after 4 weeks were significantly higher than the CT group (Figure 2).…”

“…Present studies have found high mortality and rates of bacterial infection with high stocking density (over 78 fish/m 3 ). Similarly, previous research showed that high stocking density is related to significantly higher mortality (Qiang et al, ). This suggests that better management practices such as harmless treatment of dead or diseased fish, and decreased stocking density in cage farms, would be an effective and inexpensive strategy which could reduce disease outbreaks and transmission in cage farms, especially when combined with good feed and fry quality.…”

“…Although tilapia has the potential to tolerate certain levels of salinity (Nugon, 2003 ), a salinity above 8 psu can pose adverse effects on the immune response, disease resistance and antioxidant capacity in tilapia (Alsaid et al, 2013 ; Dominguez et al, 2015 ; Gan et al, 2016 ; Qiang et al, 2016 ). In this study, we also determined that long-term hypersaline stress will cause disorders in the immune systems of Nile tilapia.…”
