Hepatitis C is a noteworthy public health issue around the globe, resulting in liver-related problems. Almost 80% of HCV patients suffer from chronic circumstances and are likely to have liver ailments. Approximately 6% population of Pakistan is infected with HCV. In this study of 510 samples were collected from May 2022 to September 2022 from Hyderabad and adjacent areas. 291 out of 510 samples were affected by HCV. The collected samples were screened based on ELISA using recombinant HCV antigens. Biochemical and hematological factors were performed on HCV-infected patients. RBC, Hemoglobin, WBC, MCV, MCHC, and PLT were observed normally in all age groups. But WBC and PLT are high in the 10-20 age groups. Hematocrit and MCH were decreased as compared to normal levels. Bilirubin, SGPT, and Alkaline phosphate were high in some age groups but normal in other age groups. Albumin was found normal in all patients. These parameters were correlated to each other to know the causes and prevention of HCV.

Black shales have a great environmental geochemical significance and act as a source of metal enrichment which upon weathering could release trace elements into soil system where they are in turn mobilized and release into surface water and groundwater systems. An investigation of environmental geochemistry of rock, soil and water in parts of Abakaliki, southeastern Benue trough, Nigeria was carried out in order to evaluate the impact of shale bedrock in the soil and water environment. Shale rock, soil and water samples were collected from ten (10) locations within the study area and were analyzed for major and trace elements using Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS). In situ parameters such as pH, in water was measured in the field. The results shows that Pb is highly enriched while As. Cr, Co, Fe, Ni, Sr, V and Zn are slightly enriched in the shales relative to the global shale average. Similar geochemical trend was observed for surface and subsurface soils. Also, the mean concentration of As, Co. Cu. Mn, Pb and Zn in soils at both depths are higher than the mean concentrations in the shale bedrock in the area of study, implying relative enrichments of these metals in the soils of the study area. In addition, the mean values of Al, Fe, Ti, Cr, Ni, Sr and V in both soil depths are lower than the values recorded in the shale bedrock. Relationship between pH and metal load suggested that the waters are dominantly near neutral to alkaline range suggesting that acidic contaminants do not affect the water quality. The mean concentration of Al, Fe, Mn and Pb in groundwater and surface water was above the regulatory standards indicating contamination of the water. The calculated enrichment factor, anthropogenic inputs, pollution index for soil indicated that the soil are highly contaminated through numerous geogenic and anthropogenic sources with Pb being the most toxic metal with the shale bedrock and the mineral load contained in them as the major contributor of these contaminants..

In‐Silico Tuning of Curcumin Loading on PEG Grafted Chitosan: An Atomistic Simulation

In this work, trimethyl chitosan grafted polyethylene glycol (PEG) was employed to optimize the curcumin loading, which is a natural bioactive substance with a good anti-cancerous effect. It is vital to develop a novel carrier to increase the therapeutic effect of curcumin and decrease its hydrophobicity. Biocompatibility and hydrophilicity of the PEG cause it to be one of the most attractive drug carriers. Chitosan is also of great importance, considering its biocompatibility, and is used along with the drug-carrying polymers. In this work, interaction energies, stability, hydrophilicity, and other molecular properties of the curcumin-loaded PEG-chitosan nanohybrid have been investigated. Atomistic analysis showd that the optimum concentration of chitosan is 60 % and optimum concentration of PEG is 40 %. In addition to concentration, the effect of PEG chain length, which is one of the important parameters of this circimin delivery system, has been also studied. The current work gives an atomistic insight into curcumin delivery and suggests a new curcumin delivery system.
