Abstract: As projected, memory chip density has been quadrupling every two years and since an ISSCC panel assessed the road ahead for the 4K RAM, four years ago, this factor has become acute. As each new generation of memory chips is introduced, the time required to develop components for production, usable in real systems, is steadily increasing.
