The 3Ranker: An AI-based Algorithm for Finding Non-animal Alternative Methods

Niels van Beuningen,
Sinne Alkema,
Nils Hijlkema
et al.

Abstract: The search for existing non-animal alternative methods for use in experiments is currently challenging because of the lack of both comprehensive structured databases and balanced keyword-based search strategies to mine unstructured textual databases. In this paper we describe 3Ranker, which is a fast, keyword-independent algorithm for finding non-animal alternative methods for use in biomedical research. The 3Ranker algorithm was created by using a machine learning approach, consisting of a Random Forest model… Show more

“…This search for alternative methods can be challenging for researchers to undertake, and thus any assistance in undertaking this process would be welcome. In this issue, van Beuningen et al 4 describe the creation of an AI-based algorithm that can be used for finding non-animal alternative methods by screening abstracts listed in databases such as PubMed/MEDLINE and Embase.…”
