Textile Wastewater Treatment for Water Reuse: A Case Study

Abstract: The reduced natural waters and the large amount of wastewater produced by textile industry necessitate an effective water reuse treatment. In this study, a combined two-stage water reuse treatment was established to enhance the quality and recovery rate of reused water. The primary treatment incorporated a flocculation and sedimentation system, two sand filtration units, an ozonation unit, an ultrafiltration (UF) system, and a reverse osmosis (RO) system. The second treatment included an ozonation unit, a sand… Show more

“…Step 2, only Austrian fiber manufacturing uses the environmentally friendly manufacturing technology, which provides much lower amounts of non-renewable energy use (NREU) than the normal technology in the other locations. We also consider cost and CO 2 e from electricity used in wastewater treatment that are calculated based on the study of Yin et al [53]. Distance and delivery time between locations for assigned transportation mode are obtained from Searates.com, a logistics provider's website.…”

“…In this test, prismatic mortar beams (40 × 40 × 160 mm 3 ) prepared with tap, sea, or RO reject water were exposed to deionized water acidified to pH 4 with nitric acid at the liquid/mortar beam volume (L/V) ratio of 8. Containers were sealed, allowed to stand still at room temperature, and acidified water was replaced at 6 h, 24 h, 5 d, 16…”

“…Reverse osmosis (RO) is a widely used high-pressure ( 10-90 bar) membrane process for the desalination of sea water, brackish water, and different kinds of wastewaters [12][13][14][15][16]. The estimated number of operational desalination plants worldwide was 18,000 in 2015 with a total capacity of more than 88 million m 3 /d [17].…”
