Terpenoids and Their Biological Activities from Cinnamomum: A Review

Abstract: Cinnamomum is a genus of the family Lauraceae, which has been recognized worldwide as an important genus due to its beneficial uses. A great deal of research on its phytochemistry and pharmacological effects has been conducted. It is noteworthy that terpenoids are the characteristic of Cinnamomum due to the peculiar structures and significant biological effects. For a more in-depth study and the better use of Cinnamomum plants in the future, the chemical structures and biological effects of terpenoids obtained… Show more

“…Moreover, these compounds are normally employed individually, while the use of plant extracts, as a whole, can provide a large set of secondary metabolites (e.g., phenols, terpenoids, etc.) with a powerful antioxidant effect and antimicrobial properties [ 97 , 98 ]. Recent advances in phytotherapy research have brought promising applications related to drug delivery.…”

“…Previously, the presence of tannin, glycosides and terpenoids have been reported in S. aromaticum and played role as pharmacological value in various traditional medicines [24]. Cinnamonum species retains all three compounds and their extracts have been used for their immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antioxidant, and anticancer activities [25].…”

“…To our knowledge, this weevil is found to only infest camphor trees in its natural habitats (Chen et al., 2020). Some Lauraceae tree species such as Cinnamomum chekiangensis Nakai and Phoebe chekiangensis Shang share high resource similarities with camphor trees (Semwal & Semwal, 2013; Wu et al., 2020). They are also cultivated in the local ecosystem according to the database Global Biodiversity Information Facility database (http://www.gbif.org) (Moudrý & Devillers, 2020).…”
