Ternary Rare Earth Inorganic–Organic Hybrids with a Mercapto‐Functionalized Si–O Linkage and a Polymer Chain: Coordination Bonding Assembly and Luminescence

Abstract: A series of ternary organic/inorganic/polymer hybrid materials have been assembled on the basis of the coordination chemistry principle. Mercapto‐functionalized MBA‐Si from MBA (4‐mercaptobenzoic acid) behaves as the first coordination unit, which forms sulfide linkages, resulting in an inorganic Si–O network after hydrolysis and copolycondensation with TEOS (tetraethoxysilane). The organic polymers PVPD [poly(4‐vinylpyridine)] and PMMA [poly(methyl methacrylate)] play a role of the second coordination unit, w… Show more

“…The residual of the 62% weight was mainly inorganic Si‐O silica network, which can be evidenced by the IR spectra of the residual (here the spectrum was not given). Generally, both the starting decomposition temperature and the residual weight prove that the stability of the polymeric hybrid is much higher than pure complex in previous studies (29,33).…”

“…The polymer was prepared according to the methods of the study given in ref. (29). After separation and purification of the monomer, 2 mmol methyl methacrylate (MMA) was dissolved in tetrahydrofuran (THF, 6 mL) in the presence of initiator benzoyl peroxide (BPO).…”

“…The residual amount of 52.5 % is mainly inorganic Si-O-Si framework which can be evidenced by the IR spectra (not shown). Generally, the starting temperature for decomposition and the residual weight prove the thermal stability of Eu-SalenSi-PMMA is much better than that of the pure complex we have studied before [13].…”

“…The organic polymer such as PVP [poly (vinyl pyridine)] [10], PEG [poly (ethylene glycol)] [11], PVPD [poly (vinylpyrroolidone)] [12], and PMMA [poly (methylmethacrylate)] [13][14][15] have been introduced into the organic/inorganic system to construct ternary organic/ inorganic/polymer hybrid materials. Among these organic polymers, PMMA is most commonly used polymer host due to its high flexibility, excellent optical properties and easy to fabricate and so on.…”

“…4‐H 2 mba has previously been employed to synthesize luminescent rare‐earth20 and supramolecular tin complexes21 by self‐assembly whereas gold complexes act as metalloligands 19. In addition, 2D coordination polymers of the uranyl ion with bis(3‐/4‐benzoic acid) disulfides have been synthesized 22.…”
