Terahertz tight-focused Bessel beam generation and point-to-point focusing based on nonlocal diffraction engineering

Abstract: Metasurfaces transform the wavefront by spatially varying the amplitude or phase of the incoming beam. Instead of encoding such variation by subwavelength unit cells, it is achievable over diffraction engineering of supercell structures, which outperforms the unit-cell method when the spatial gradient is large. In addition to tight focusing, here we apply this method to achieve plane wave-to-Bessel beam transformation and point-to-point focusing at terahertz frequencies. The Bessel beam has a small beam waist … Show more

“…The polarization characteristics of BGb generated by the integrated photonic chip are entirely different from those of Bessel beams in the previous works [6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13][14] (Supplementary Table S1). Here, a first-order vector beam with polarization singularity centered at the optical field is generated.…”

“…The integrated generation of the Bessel beam can provide a simple structure for effectively detecting light beams blocked by obstacles. However, the previously reported Bessel beam generator [10][11][12][13][14] cannot be used in long-distance scenes because of its short propagation distance. So far, there have seldom been reports on the rotation-speed measurement using the BGb generated on a chip.…”

Yang et al realized a THz metalens with subwavelength resolution imaging over a 9.1λ long distance based on the nonlocal diffraction engineering [22] . Xiao et al proposed a THz metalens with an adjustable focal length of over 100 μm at 1.8-2.2 THz [23] .…”
