Abstract: The 25th anniversary of the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) in the United States occurred in 2006. Despite advances in detection, treatment, and care, AIDS, along with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), and other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) remain formidable opponents.
