An Investigation of the Morphology of the Petrotympanic Fissure Using Cone-Beam Computed Tomography

“…The incidence of 44.3% type 1 - widely open PTF at the right side and 35.8% type 1 - widely open PTF at the left side should be taken into consideration when planning an arthroscopic surgery. Our findings are in agreement with the surgical recommendations of McCain [ 27 ] about avoiding complications when performing arthroscopic surgery. Tsuyama et al [ 6 ] pointed out that the operator should have a thorough understanding of the regional anatomy involved to prevent complications arising from TMJ arthroscopic surgery.…”
