Tectonic implications of Late Paleozoic stratigraphic distribution in Northeast China and adjacent region

Abstract: An analysis of the distribution of the Late Paleozoic strata on Northeast China and adjacent region reveals a zonal pattern of the distribution around the core of the Jiamusi-Mongolia Block. The main part of Late Paleozoic marine strata in this area is considered the continental margin deposits of the Jiamusi-Mongolia Block by analyzing the stratigraphic contact relationship, lithofacies, etc. The results are exhibited in a series of tectonic paleogeographic maps. This presents an important proof for the found… Show more

“…The southern margin of the Siberia plate (southern tip of present Baykal) was 60°N in paleolatitude in Devonian (Zonenshain et al, 1990). In Early-Middle Devonian, tropic coral reef limestone and bryozoan reef limestone were widely developed in the northern margin of Jiamusi-Mongolia block (Wang et al, 2009(Wang et al, , 2008, which indicates that it was at the low-middle paleolatitude. Pruner (1992) pointed out that the paleomagnetic data of the Siberia plate are obviously different from those of the Mongolia (Southern Mongolia) during Carboniferous-Triassic.…”

“…Hegenshan-Heihe suture was derived from the above understandings (Wang et al, 1990). Wang et al (2009Wang et al ( , 2008 put forward that it is a stable tectonic unit during Late Paleozoic, named as the Jiamusi-Mongolia block, which is bounded by the Mongolia-Okhotsk suture to the north, the Xar Moron River-Yanji suture to the south, and the Middle Sikhote subduction zone to the north. The Zeya-HailarShinejinst area is an important part of the JiamusiMongolia block, and this totally differs from the viewpoint of that which assigned this area to the Siberia plate.…”
