Technology, Finance, and Dependency: Latin American Radical Political Economy in Retrospect

Abstract: The surge in academic work on globalization has made several of the topics dear to authors of the dependency school relevant once again. Therefore, a reconsideration of dependency theory seems to be appropriate. There are at least two approaches to dependency. In the late 1980s, the field pointed out the importance of political issues at both national and inter-national levels to theorize business corporations (Boddewyn, 1988;Grosse, 1989) although both IPE and dependency theory were coming down in the US academic context at that time (Vernengo, 2006).
