Teaching software architectures and aspect-oriented software development using open-source projects

Abstract: The complexity and the big size of current software systems are challenges to be faced in software development. In the last few years, these challenges have increased the effort required to develop such large software systems. As a result, students must be able to develop these systems using approaches that reduce their development costs. Two of these approaches are Software Architectures and the Aspect-Oriented Software Development. However, in order to acquire skills in these approaches, students must put th… Show more

“…These features of inside control make it adequate to case-based learning. All examples we found of case-based learning (Costa-Soria & Pérez, 2009;Kume et al, 2006;Nandigam et al, 2008;Tao & Nandigam, 2006;Toth, 2006) but one are also examples of the inside control. The exception was a single study that proposed a web application to facilitate case creation .…”

“…Some intend to enhance student motivation (Auer, Juntunen, & Ojala, 2011;Costa-Soria & Pérez, 2009;Ellis, Hislop, Rodriguez, & Morelli, 2012;Morelli et al, 2009;Nandigam, Gudivada, & Hamou-Lhadj, 2008;Sowe, Stamelos, & Deligiannis, 2006), others aim at attracting more students (Budd, 2009;Raj & Kazemian, 2006;Xing, 2010), hence, improving enrolments in computer science courses (Kussmaul, 2009;Seiter, 2009;. In addition, there are papers whose aim is supplying students with an experience with OSS, i.e.…”
