The present study aimed to identify and summarize evidence regarding muscle strength (MS) levels in school children and adolescents (≤ 19 years) in Brazil in order to update previously published evidence from the Report Card Brazil project. The systematic search for information was conducted in seven databases, restricted to studies published during the period from January 2018 to December 2019. Thirteen studies were included, which gathered information from 10,135 children and adolescents from seven Brazilian states. Different tests/protocols for assessing MS were identified, however, handgrip strength was the test most adopted in studies (53.8%). The prevalence of children and adolescents with MS levels considered healthy was 29.8%, considering the totality of information, and 27.6% for males and 31.8% for females. Considering full data reviewed by the Report Card Brazil project (data analyzed in this study in addition to those previously published), information regarding the assessment of MS levels in children and adolescents in Brazil came from studies conducted during the period from 2010 to 2019, which included a sample of 15,208 children and adolescents (aged 7-19 years). According to this information, the prevalence of children and adolescents with MS levels considered healthy in this period was 57.8%, 61.1% for males and 58.8% for females.

Detecção de talentos para o voleibol na escola: uma modelagem estatística baseada na estatura adulta prevista

A detecção de talentos esportivos é uma importante área de estudos das ciências dos esportes. Embora com muitas evidências ainda hoje são muitos os países que investem nesses programas por considerarem a detecção a primeira etapa de formação de um atleta de alto rendimento esportivo. No voleibol não encontramos um modelo no Brasil que atenda essa etapa de detecção de jovens atletas para modalidade visando o contexto escolar, local onde encontramos esse maior número de jovens. Considerando a estatura como a principal váriavel para modalidade e sua previsão com aspectos maturacionais envolvidos, dado importante no processo de promoção de atletas de desempenho. O presente estudo teve como objetivo apresentar uma inovadora proposta de detecção de talentos para o voleibol, baseada na variável estatura adulta prevista (EAP). A partir da amostra de escolares do Colégio Militar de Juiz de Fora de ambos os sexos (1060 total), com idade entre 12 e 16 anos, submetidos a avaliação de estatura, peso e média da estatura dos pais, foram estabelecidas a estatura adulta previstas, média e desvio padrão. Com dados dos jogadores e jogadoras da Superliga A de voleibol de 2019, foram apresentadas as médias de estaturas por posição de jogo, levantador (185,0 cm) e (174,0 cm) , ponteiro (192,0 cm) e (179,0 cm), central (200,0 cm) e (185,0 cm) , oposto (198,0 cm) e (181,0 cm) e líbero (179,0 cm) e (161,2 cm), masculino e feminino respectivamente, sendo as maiores dos jogadores de posição central seguidas de opostos, ponteiros, levantadores e líberos. Como resultados encontramos que somente 4,3% dos meninos avaliados podem chegar as estaturas de atletas de elite da modalidade e 2,2% das meninas. O número fica menor ainda quando observado em posições de jogo, onde de acordo com as estaturas médias previstas meninos e meninas possuem 58,3% e 58,4% de alcançarem estatura de jogadores da posição de líbero, respectivamente, seguidos de um maior percentual para levantadores 13,3% para meninos e 4,8% para meninas de atingirem a estatura média de atletas de elite. Para centrais, opostos e ponteiros os valores foram muito pequenos, menores que 1%. Conclui-se que a estatura adulta prevista pode ser um importante instrumento para detectar jovens talentos para o voleibol com objetivo de promover atletas de alto desempenho, sendo o novo modelo proposto, de ampla aplicabilidade e reprodutibilidade, podendo ainda novos estudos serem realizados buscando maiores evidências nos achados.

Introduction: Talent detection is a dynamic and multifactorial process that must start at school. Objective: Create a mathematical model for evaluating the sporting potential of schoolchildren for athletics in speed, throwing, and endurance events and to test its psychometric properties. Methods: 2871 schoolchildren of both sexes, from 11 to 17 years old, from a military school participated. Between 2015 and 2019, students were submitted to a multidimensional battery of tests containing anthropometric, physical-motor, psychological, socio-environmental, maturational, and performance indicators. In addition, ten teachers evaluated the students regarding the intangibles aspects of their sporting potential and the expectation of future success during this period. Adopting analytical and heuristic procedures, the Gold Score Athletics was created – linear, hybrid (tests + coaches´ eye), and weighted index, according to each indicator's importance, depending on the event type. Results: In the model validation sample (n = 1384), 13.9%, 16.6%, and 11.7% of boys and 10.9%, 10.1%, and 9.1% of girls were classified as high potential (Gold Score ≥ 60) for speed, throwing and endurance events, respectively. Internal consistency (r = 0.76 to 0.82) and diagnostic stability were high (r = 0.72 to 0.81). The Gold Score Athletics for sprinters, throwers, and long-distance runners, both for boys and girls, was higher in students selected for a national competition when compared to those not selected (p < 0.001; d: 0.95 a 1.44) – construct validity – and higher in medalists in an athletics competition, held two years after diagnosis, when compared to non-medalists (p < 0.05; d: 0.62 a 1.87) – predictive validity. Conclusion: The Gold Score Athletics is a valid and reliable scientific model for evaluating the sport's potential of schoolchildren, being useful in the talents detection for Athletics.
