“…A recent histologic study on im plant capsule tissues found biréfringent crystals containing magnesium and silicon, presumed to be talc introduced on gloves or on the implants [7], Talc is a magnesium silicate and a known cause of granulomatous and fibrous inflamma tion [8]. However, the crystals seen in our patient are smaller than talc crystals if found contaminating a surgical field.…”

Exaggerated anticipatory anxiety is common in social anxiety disorder (SAD). Neuroimaging studies have revealed altered neural activity in response to social stimuli in SAD, but fewer studies have examined neural activity during anticipation of feared social stimuli in SAD. The current study examined the time course and magnitude of activity in threat processing brain regions during speech anticipation in socially anxious individuals and healthy controls (HC). Method Participants (SAD n = 58; HC n = 16) underwent functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) during which they completed a 90s control anticipation task and 90s speech anticipation task.

“…referring to mammary implants. 6 On occasions, foreign body granulomas are produced by the use of cosmetic or hygiene products, such as those described in axilla due to talc contained in some deodorants. 8 Tye et al .…”

“…9,10,13 Through polarized light examination, the magnesium silicate crystals present a typical morphology in the shape of 'spicules', which reveal white birefringence. 6,9 Using electron microscopy, highly electrodense laminar structures can be visualized inside the cytoplasm of histiocytes and epithelioid cells. This has also been described in other phagocytic cells.…”

“…Cutaneous and/or subcutaneous foreign body granulomas caused by talc (magnesium silicate) have been reported for different causes and in diverse circumstances. Thus there are cases described such as granulomas in surgical wounds due to the talc contained in some gloves as a lubricant, 6 or following topical treatment of a wound with antiseptic powder 7 . Some authors have suggested that contamination of surgical implants with talc can induce granuloma formation, such as in the article published by Kasper et al .…”
