Abstract: Croizatia, a genus known from Panama and Venezuela (Euphorbiaceae, Phyllanthoideae), has been considered closely related to the Old World genus Actephila. However, the spinose pollen of Croizatia is very different from the semitectate pollen of Actephila, and the two genera appear clearly distinct. The pollen morphology of Croizatia suggests a possible relationship with the Oldfieldioideae, and it may be the closest extant taxon to a connecting link between the subfamilies.
