“…In Brazil, in 2016, a study carried out with 38,247 conscripts, aged 17 to 22 years old, found a prevalence of 1.09% of confirmed syphilis. “…National and international surveys have indicated a greater vulnerability of adolescents and young men to STIs, particularly HIV infection [1][2][3][4] . In Brazil, data from the latest HIV/AIDS Epidemiological Bulletin 5 indicated that, from 2007 to 2017the AIDS detection rate increased approximately 2.3 times among men aged 15 to 19 (from 3 to 7/100 thousand inhabitants) and 20 to 24 (from 15.6 to 36.2/100 thousand inhabitants).…”

“…The findings in Daling et al [13] reveal that syphilis and anal cancer co-infections were more common among unmarried men than among the married ones. In another report, da Mota et al [26] discussed the prevalence of syphilis and its risk factors among young men presented to the Brazilian Army in 2016, and showed that syphilis infection is mostly preceeded by sexually transmitted infections (STIs), especially HPV infection, gonorrhea and HIV. Similar conclusions were made by Miranda et al [25].…”
