Synthesis of low‐costing 4A‐zeolite and stabilization of heavy metals from municipal solid waste incineration fly ash and activated red mud

Abstract: To handle the increasing environmental issues caused by red mud and municipal solid waste incineration (MSWI) fly ash, an integrated technology for its comprehensive utilization was developed through the activation of red mud followed by synthesis of 4A‐zeolite. Three influencing factors on the thermal‐alkali activation effect of red mud were investigated. Afterwards, activated red mud was combined with fly ash to synthesize 4A‐zeolite and solidify heavy metal simultaneously. The results indicated that the max… Show more

“…The mineral compositions of acid-leached residues and alkali-dissolved residues were characterized by XRD to further illustrate the reaction mechanism, which is shown in Figure 2. The broad diffraction peak (20)(21)(22)(23)(24)(25) belonging to the amorphous silica in acid-leached residues disappeared after the alkali-dissolution process. The major crystalline phased in alkali-dissolved residues were corundum (Al 2 O 3 ) and perovskite (Ca 4 Ti 3 O 10 ), indicating the high reactive silica dissolved into the desilication liquids 28 .…”

“…The precursor properties and the synthesis conditions became the key parameters for the preparation of high-performance mesoporous silica 8,[10][11][12][13][14][15][16][18][19][20][21] . However, the typical preparation of precursors from CFA in these studies was performed with alkali-dissolution and alkali-fusion methods 10,16,22 . In these studies, the utilization efficiency of SiO 2 was 30-50% because the quartz (SiO 2 ) and mullite (3Al 2 O 3 Á2SiO 2 ) in CFA could not been transformed effectively to sodium silicate.…”

“…Авторы работы [13] изучали способность соединения красного шлама и летучей золы отвердевать тяжелые металлы. На основании полученных результатов показано, что смесь красного шлама и летучей золы можно использовать в качестве недорогого цеолитного продукта с эффективностью отверждения 98,23 %, 99,09 %, 99,72 % и 98,21 % для Cu, Zn, Pb и Cd соответственно.…”
