Synthesis of filtrate reducer from biogas residue and its application in drilling fluid

Abstract: Biogas residues (BR) containing cellulose and lignin are produced with the rapid development of biogas engineering. BR can be used to prepare the filtrate reducer of water-based drilling fluid in oilfields by chemi-cal modification. BR from anaerobically fermenting grain stillage was alkalized and etherified by caustic soda and chloroacetic acid to prepare filtrate reducer, which was named as FBR. The long-chain crystalline polysaccharides were selected as dispersing agents (DA), and the water-soluble silicate… Show more

“…Take the starch modification reaction as an example, many research studies have been carried out in the field of the chemical modification of starch. Most chemical modifications of starch, such as esterification and carboxymethylation, are wet modifications, i.e., carried out in sufficient aqueous or organic solvents, including ethanol [15,16], N,N-dimethylformamide [17], pyridine [18], etc. The aqueous solution reaction system has the disadvantages of poor reaction efficiency, unstable product quality, and increasing side reactions.…”

“…Drilling fluid is the “blood” of the oilfield drilling process, and the addition of various additives to drilling fluid can stabilize the well wall, balance the formation pressure, and carry broken rock cuttings, and so on [ 18 ]. With the continuous decline in oil prices, the development direction of drilling fluid additives is to use industrial by-products as raw materials to reduce the production cost of drilling fluid additives [ 19 , 20 , 21 ]. Filtrate loss reducer is the core additive of drilling fluid, which can reduce the amount of drilling fluid filtrate loss penetration into the formation interior to ensure safe oilfield production.…”
