Synthesis of Dendrimer‐Encapsulated Silver Nanoparticles and Its Catalytic Activity on the Reduction of 4‐Nitrophenol

Abstract: A new type of water soluble PEG core dendrimer having hydroxyl groups at the periphery was synthesized and used to prepare silver nanoparticles. The dendrimer and the dendrimer encapsulated nanoparticles (DENs) were characterized by spectroscopic techniques. The kinetics of catalytic activity of the prepared silver nanoparticle on the reduction of 4‐nitrophenol to 4‐aminophenol by NaBH4 as a reductant was studied using UV‐Visible spectrophotometer.

“…6). Nevertheless, the peak at 400 nm remaing unchanged even after a day implies that the reduction in 4‐NP did not proceed in the absence of a catalyst [43]. This is due to the fact that the 4‐NP reduction process is thermodynamically favourable but kinetically hindered.…”

“…Among other efforts worth mentioning, Asharani and Thirumalai reported the synthesis of PEG-G1-(3,5-DHB-OH)16 (Figure 6a) a poly(ethylene glycol core) dendrimer bearing hydroxyl terminal groups and paired it with silver cations [93]. Analogous successful catalytic Ag NPs combination was implemented with polyetheramine (Jeffamine) core PAMAM dendrimer [94].…”
