Synthesis, Crystal Structure and Magnetic Property of Diiron Complex [Fe(phen)3][Fe2OCl6]·2CH3CN

Abstract: A new diiron complex has been synthesized and characterized by X-ray single crystal structural analysis: [Fe n (phen)3] [Fe IH 20Cl6] -2CH3CN. The complex crystallizes in the monoclinic system, space group C2/c, with lattice parameters a = 21.162(4) Ä, b = 15.168(3) Ä, c = 14.812(3) Ä, ß = 112.71 (3)°, V = 4385.8(15) Ä 3 , Dx = 1.543 Mg/m 3 , Z = 4. The corresponding variable temperature susceptibility measurement shows that there ex ists an antiferromagnetic interaction in the complex.

“…Previously, many efforts have been contributed to these researches, especially to the models for non-heme metalloproteins (Davydov et al, 1997;Mauerer et al, 1993;Ito et al, 1996;Okuno et al, 1997;Menage et al, 1993). Here, we report a ionic compound, [Fe(phen) octahedron, Fe-N bond lengths range from 1.972 (4) Å to 1.985 (4) Å and are similar to those reported in the literature (Yan et al, 2000;Li et al, 2008). In the anionic group two Fe III cations locate in similar tetrahedral environments constructed by three Cland one µ 2 -bridged O 2ligand.…”

“…Fe complexes containing phen have been studied for their ability to interact with DNA (Furtado et al, 1997;Mudasir et al, 2003). Few crystal structures of Fe 3+ complexes of phen have been reported (Baker et al, 1975), although there are many papers describing crystal structures containing [Fe(phen)] 2+ cations (Broomhead et al, 1982;Che et al, 1997;Deng et al, 2001;Hoshina et al, 2000;Koh et al, 1994;Li et al, 1993;Reiff et al, 1983;Ronco et al, 1986;Yan et al, 2000;Zalkin et al, 1973). In the present study, we synthesized the title compound, [Fe(phen) 3 ] 3+ Á3NO 3 À ÁH 2 O, and analyzed its crystal structure.…”
