Abstract: A series of eight bis(thiosemicarbazone) ligands and 16 of their respective copper(II) and zinc(II) complexes containing a combination of hydrogen, methyl, pyridyl, phenyl, and/or ethyl substituents at the diimine position of the ligand backbone were synthesized and characterized. The objective of this study was to identify the structure−activity relationships within a series of analogues with different substituents at the diimine position of the backbone and at the terminal N atom. The Cu(II) complexes Cu(GTS… Show more

“…[17][18][19][20][21][22] Some of these higher coordination numbers are achieved by bis-thiosemicarbazone ligands. Good examples for the tetradentate coordination of a bis-TSC ligand are the Cu-ATSM (Scheme 1A) [23][24][25][26][27] and the bis-TSC Ni(II) complex (B) reported recently as an electrocatalyst for H 2 evolution. 28 In contrast to these symmetric S^N^N^S-coordinating bis-TSCs, unsymmetric N^N^N^S coordination of Pt(II) was very recently accomplished with a phenanthroline-TSC ligand (C).…”

“…Anjum et al recently reported eight thiosemicarbazido-based Cu(II) complexes, Cu-ATSM analogues 15-22, with promising antitumor activity [54] (Figure 7). Coordination Cu-ATSM 14 also proved to be an effective drug capable of slowing the progression of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) disease and improving the respiratory and cognitive function of patients.…”

“…Anjum et al recently reported eight thiosemicarbazido-based Cu(II) complexes, Cu-ATSM analogues 15-22, with promising antitumor activity [54] (Figure 7). The toxicity of Cu(II) complexes 15-22 could be decreased by co-incubation with the nontoxic Cu chelator tetramolibdate (TM) or the antioxidant N-acetylcysteine (NAC), suggesting a mechanism of Cu-induced oxidative stress.…”

“…In addition to the primarily preferred platinum(II) and palladium(II), [14][15][16][17] studies have also been performed by using the metal ions compatible with mammalian biology such as iron(III), copper(II), and zinc(II). [18][19][20][21][22][23] Researching the iron-based metal complexes to find chemotherapeutic agents is a common preference in medicinal chemistry. [24] An iron(III)-salen complex having 5-methyltetrazol-1-ido moiety was found 200 times more effective than cisplatin against the ovarian carcinoma cells.…”
