Synthesis and Optical Properties of Novel Red-Emitting PbNb2O6: Eu3+ Phosphors

Abstract: Undoped and PbNb2O6:Eu(3+) (1.0 ≤ x ≤ 6.0 mol%) phosphors were synthesized at 1100 °C for 3.5 h by the conventional solid state reaction method. Synthesized PbNb2O6:Eu(3+) phosphors were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) and Photoluminescence (PL) analyses. The PL spectra showed series of excitation peaks between 350 and 430 nm due to the 4f-4f transitions of Eu(3+). For 395.0 nm excitation, emission spectra of Eu(3+) doped sample… Show more

“…The luminescence spectra of Eu 3+ ion usually presents broad band with the emission color varying from ultraviolet to red depending on the different host materials. Trivalent europium ion usually have two dominant emission bands: one is in the orange region (585‐600 nm) due to 5 D 0 → 7 F 1 transition and the other is in the red region (610‐630 nm) corresponding to the 5 D 0 → 7 F 2 transition …”

“…7 F 2 transition. 5,6 Regarding the lead tantalate (PbTa 2 O 6 ), there are some works on structural, dielectric, optical, and ferroelectric properties. [7][8][9][10] Structural characterization of PbTa 2 O 6 was discussed by these studies.…”

“…The shift between the two polymorphs was also studied by absorption analysis, which is given in Figure 7. PL host absorption for rhombohedral PbNb2O6 has been previously reported around 385 nm (17), but it was not clearly observed in the same spectral range. The absorption peaks of the Eu 3+ doped PbNb2O6 and undoped PbNb2O6 samples are around 370-375 nm.…”

“…The synthesis, structural, and optical properties of several AB2O6-type niobate compounds have been investigated (17)(18)(19)(20)(21). Among the leadbased niobates, PbNb2O6 ceramics have been studied recently for their photocatalytic (22), dielectric and piezoelectric (23), ferroelectric (24)(25)(26)(27)(28)(29), and thermal properties (30).…”
