Synthesis and characterization of single-crystalline Bi2O2SiO3 nanosheets with exposed {001} facets

Abstract: Bismuth oxide silicate (Bi2O2SiO3) single-crystalline nanosheets with exposed {001} facets were synthesized for the first time via a facile one-step CTAB-assisted hydrothermal method in the presence of NaOH.

“…Furthermore, fingerprint evidences for probing ⋅ O 2 − and ⋅ OH were provided by the 5, 5‐dimethyl‐1‐pyrroline N‐oxide (DMPO) in methanol and in water, respectively. As shown in Figure a, four typical signals of ⋅ OH (antisymmetric peaks with intensities of 1:2:2:1) were observed by ultrathin Bi 2 MoO 6 nanosheets and bulk Bi 2 MoO 6 under the visible light irradiation, revealing that ⋅ OH was generated during the photocatalysis . Interestingly, the intensity of the peaks of ultrathin Bi 2 MoO 6 nanosheets was higher than those of bulk Bi 2 MoO 6 , suggesting that more ⋅ OH appeared in the photooxidation process.…”

“…The Mott-Schottky relationship exhibits that the value of intersection point is the flat band potential (E fb ), which is À1.30 and À1.43 V for the MCS (Figure S5(a)) and PNIMCS (Figure S5(b)), respectively. 18,56 Since the slope of the tangent line of the Mott-Schottky curve is positive, they are n-type semiconductors, then the relationship between E CB and E fb is E CB = E fb + 0.198 V -0.1 V. 57,58 The E CB of the MCS and PNIMCS are À1.202 and À1.332 eV, respectively. PNIMCS has a higher reduction capacity and stronger driving force to facilitate the photocatalytic reduction of H 2 O to H 2 .…”

“…Photoluminescence spectroscopy (PL) is a feasible technique to investigate the separation and recombination of the photogenerated electron–hole pairs. Generally, the weak PL signal intensity implies the lower recombination rate of the photoinduced carriers . However, the lower PL intensity not signified the superior photocatalytic performance due to the multiple emission properties in the recombining process of semiconductors.…”
