Abstract: Enantiopure dinuclear μ‐aqua‐tetrakis[(R or S)‐N‐1‐(Ar)ethylsalicylaldiminato]di‐Λ‐ or ‐Δ‐nickel(II) [Ar = C6H5 (R‐1/S‐1), p‐MeOC6H4 (R‐2/S‐2), p‐ClC6H4 (R‐3/S‐3), p‐BrC6H4 (R‐4)] complexes have been synthesized from the reaction between (R or S)‐N‐1‐(Ar)ethylsalicylaldimine and nickel(II) acetate. Their CD spectra demonstrate chirality transfer from the ligands to the metal ions and a mirror‐image relationship for the enantiomeric pair R‐3/S‐3 in thf. DSC analyses show that the complexes exhibit an irreversib… Show more

“…46a,b As compared to the corresponding complexes of Cu and Ni, 20,22 the present case is greatly facilitated by the presence of a diamagnetic closed-shell metal. We used as a starting geometry the X-ray structure of Λ-Zn-2R.…”

“…A symmetrical coordination of water and an asymmetrical ligation of phenolate oxygen atoms are found in all cited compounds except one [80]. The separation of nickel(II) ions (from 2.971 Å to 2.988 Å) [80,86] is in the same range, as in 4 or shorter (from 2.857 Å to 2.891 Å) [81][82][83][84][85]. In 4, there are Ni1-O-Ni1 angles close to 91 • , but in the dinuclear complexes with shorter Ni· · · Ni distances there were three acute angles calculated.…”

“…Equivalent face-sharing octahedra to those in 4 are found in some dinuclear nickel complexes with a Ni 2 (µ-O) 3 framework. Three bridging oxygen atoms in dinuclear nickel compounds in most cases originate from two phenolate ions and one water molecule [80][81][82][83][84][85][86]. A symmetrical coordination of water and an asymmetrical ligation of phenolate oxygen atoms are found in all cited compounds except one [80].…”

“…Polarimetric measurements show the rotation to the right with [a] D ¼ þ75.0 (c ¼ 0.20 g/100 mL) for 1 and to the left with [a] D ¼ À74.1 (c ¼ 0.27 g/100 mL) for 2, confirm the enantiopurity or very similar enantiomeric excess of the complexes in chloroform solution [35].…”
