Synergy of PMN-PT with piezoelectric polymer using sugar casting method for sensing applications

Abstract: Sugar casting is a simple and cost-effective direct method of generating polymer foams. By incorporating grains directly into mixtures of polymer and piezoelectric nanoparticles it is possible to create highly compliant materials with excellent piezoelectric properties. In this work, we use the sugar casting method in combination with spin coating to prepare a highly sensitive and flexible 0-3 piezoelectric polymer thin film membranes with a layer thickness of 20 to 190 µm. Porosities and elasticity are tuned … Show more

“…Some FE compounds of the PMN-PT family with the general formula of Pb[Mg 1/3 Nb 2/3 ) x Ti 1−x ]O 3 were known to become PV after WO 3 doping [23] and recently the PV effect has been also reported for two compounds with stoichiometry at the vicinity of the morphotropic phase boundary region [33,43,44]. Crystals of this type are available commercially owing to their important electro-optical [45][46][47] and piezoelectric properties having a wide range of applications [48][49][50]. In this work a single crystal of Pb[(Mg 1/3 Nb 2/3 ) 0.70 Ti 0.30 ]O 3 was ordered from Crystal GmbH (Germany) and its composition was independently verified by energy-dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDS).…”

“…The Pb[(Mg 1/3 Nb 2/3 ) 0.70 Ti 0.30 ]O 3 (PMN-PT30%) crystal with dimensions of 1.49 × 0.78 × 0.3 mm 3 was cut from plates of (001) orientation supplied by Crystal-GmbH (Germany). This ferroelectric compound belongs to the PMN-PT family of low-electric-field switchable crystals reported to manifest a large scale of interesting properties ranging from electro-optic and piezoelectric to photovoltaic ,,, and photostrictive. , …”
