Supramolecular assembly of melamine and its derivatives: nanostructures to functional materials

Abstract: The last twenty years have witnessed increasing research activity in the area of supramolecular chemistry of 1 : 1 co-assembly of melamine (M)-cyanuric acid (CA), since the historic discovery of the M$CA aggregate in crystal form and its structural analysis by Wang and his coworkers in 1990. Its useful chemical structure and fascinating H-bonding interaction sites distinguish M and its analogous derivatives as scaffolding components in the field of supramolecular chemistry to develop desired nanoto-micro scale… Show more

“…The cyclic (Figure c) and differential pulse (Figure d) voltammograms of the propranolol enantiomers on these electrodes differ among themselves. The linear range of detectable concentrations is 0.026–0.86 mM (Figure ).This is due to the fact that melamine and cyanuric acid molecules can form supramolecular structures that exhibit the properties of chiral selectors. A similar effect was observed in the voltammograms of propranolol enantiomers registered on a CPE modified with uracil .…”

“…In an illustrative example, melamine [17,22], a H-bonded molecule with threefold symmetry, was assembled together with perylene tetracarboxylic diimide (PTCDI) [23]. These molecules interact strongly via complementary triple H-bonds.…”
