Abstract: The aim of this study was to compare the epidemiology, prognosis and socio-economic aspects of perforating eye injuries (PEIs) between the decades 1930-39 and 1950-59. The literature on the various aspects of PEI, including intra-ocular foreign bodies (IOFBs), is reviewed.The methods of examination are described. In 1930-39 1000 and in 1950-59, 1015 patients with PEIs were treated at Helsinki University Eye Hospital. Thus, the number of PEIs had not increased from the thirties to the fifties. There were 248…
