Sugar cane bagasse ash (SCBA) is an abundant byproduct of the sugar and ethanol industry. SCBA is generally used as a fertilizer or is disposed of in landfills, which has led to intensified environmental concerns. In recent years, SCBA research has mainly been focused on utilization in construction materials due to the abundance and pozzolanic characteristics of SCBA. In this paper, a comprehensive review of the state-of-the-art morphology, physical properties, chemical composition, and mineralogical composition of SCBA is presented. Studies indicate that SCBA is a potentially promising construction material. The applications of SCBA as a pozzolanic material, a new source for preparing alkali-activated binders, aggregates, and fillers in construction materials, are summarized. The impacts of SCBA on fresh and hardened concrete properties are highlighted, including the physical properties, mechanical strength, microstructure, and durability. Key factors that govern pozzolanic activity are discussed in detail, including calcination and recalcination temperatures, and durations, fineness, loss on ignition (LOI), and crystal silicon dioxide. Finally, further research on the optimal and broad utilization of SCBA in construction materials is recommended.

Abstrak Pada penelitian ini dilakukan pengolahan limbah sekam padi menjadi biokar sebagai zat aditif dalam mortar yang berperan sebagai absorben gas CO2 di dalam mortar. Tujuan penelitian ini selain untuk memanfaatkan limbah sekam, tetapi juga untuk mengetahui pengaruh penambahan biokar sekam padi terhadap penyerapan gas CO2 dan kuat tekan pada plester dinding. Pada penelitian ini biokar yang digunakan adalah biokar yang dipirolisis pada suhu 500ºC selama 8 jam. Penambahan biokar dilakukan dengan presentase 0; 10; 12,5 dan 15% dalam campuran mortar dengan komposisi Portland Cement (PC):Pasir (PS) sebesar 1:4 dan faktor air semen sebesar 0,6. Selanjutnya dilakukan pengujian kuat tekan mortar dilakukan setelah perawatan 7 dan 28 hari dan serapan gas CO2. Hasil dari pengukuran kuat tekan dan serpan gas CO2 menunjukan bahwa semakin banyak penambahan presentase biokar dalam campuran mortar akan menurukan kekuatan plester dinding dan penyerapan gas CO2 pada plester. Kata kunci: Biokar, karbon dioksida, kuat tekan, mortar. Abstract Biochar utilization in various fields of life, where biocar is an additive in mortar that acts as CO2 absorbent in the mortar. This study aims to determine the effect of the addition of biochar rice husk form CO2 absorption and compressive strength on wall plaster. The biochar used was characterized by SEM-EDX and FTIR, while the standard plaster samples, 10% biocar+plaster, and 15% biocar+plaster used SAA. In this study biocar which had been pyrolyzed at 500 °C at a pressure of 10 psi, then added at 0; 10; 12.5 and 15% in mortar mix with the composition of Portland Cement (PC):Sand (PS) was 1:4 and Portland Cement (PC): water (W) of 0.6. Mortar compressive strength testing on 7 and 28 treatment days. From the results of the study, the optimal percentage of biocar addition was 10% with compressive strength of 18.5 MPa and CO2 absorption of 0.14 ppm. More biochar additions to the plaster reduce the strength and absorption of CO2 gasplaster. Keywords: Biochar, carbon dioxide, compressive strength, mortar

the availability of sugarcane bagasse ash produced by Arasoe Sugar Factory, it is not used utilized. That sugarcane bagasse ash has size very fine that it can pollute the air. The sugarcane bagasse ash has silicate content, and it has pozzolan properties. The needs of construction material are something that to think about that. It is an alternative to substitute the using of cement in concrete construction. This study is aimed to find the potential of sugarcane bagasse ash in Arasoe Sugar Factory for partial substitution of cement in concrete. The sample made from the variety of sugarcane bagasse ash 0%, 2.5%, 5%, and 7.5% as partial substitution of cement in concrete. The ratio of water and cement is 0.45. The specimen of concrete is taken care in standard condition at the laboratory and compressive strength test when the sample is in 28, 45, and 62 days old. The compressive strength test refers to ASTM C39/ C39M-01 (Standard Test Method for Compressive Strength of Cylindrical Concrete Specimens). The development of compressive strength of concrete with many variations of sugarcane bagasse ash 0% 2.5%, 5% is increasing along with the age of concrete, however in contrast with 7.5% of sugarcane bagasse ash the decreasing in 60 days old later. Partial substitute of sugarcane bagasse ash in concrete is possible to do in an amount about 5% of sugarcane bagasse ash.
