Subacute Disseminated Lupus Erythematosus

Lupus erythematosus gyratus repens. Report of a case associated with a lung carcinoma

“…Erythema annulare centrifugum of Daricr (1916), by contrast, has been related not only to benign or malignant tumours (Herzberg & Seelemann, 1953;Lazar, 1963;Dupre et al, i979)) but also on occasion to hypersensitivity to Penicillium (Shelley, 1964) or to a dermatophyte (Jillson, 1954). Erythema annulare centrifugum has, furthermore, been documented in association with systemic or chronic LE (Ellis & Friedman, 1954;Irgang, 1957;Rekant & Becker, 1973;Baccareda, 1974;Heid era/., 1977), and may also occur during the course of LE as an adverse reaction to antimalarial therapy (Grupper, 1957;Ashurt, 1967). Neither EGR nor EAC, however, demonstrate the classical histological changes of LE which are found in LEGR.…”

“…The occurrence of widespread figurate lesions during the course of lupus erythematosus (LE) is uncommon but is nevertheless well recognized in the literature (Ormsby, 1933;Irgang, 1957;Rekant & Becker, 1973;Baccareda, 1974;Heid et al^ 1977)-Hewitt et al (1975 and Laugier (1977) applied the term 'lupus erythematosus gyratus repens' (LEGR) to describe a particular variant of this presentation of LE characterized by the presence of a migratory annular erythema with a gyrate configuration and the histological changes of LE. We report a further case of LEGR in whom the lupus band test, as in the original case of Hewitt et al (1975), was negative.…”
