Abstract

As a result of technological developments, working hours are reduced, leisure time increases, welfare level increases, modern transportation and communication systems and tools have led to the emergence of the desire to evaluate leisure time as a cultural change. This cultural change has led individuals to alternative tourism types. Underwater diving tourism, which is an alternative tourism type, attracts the attention of individuals. However, considering the side of Turkey's 3 being surrounded by sea water diving tourism possible to say that Turkey is important in terms of tourism. However, it is known that there are not enough studies in the related literature. In this study, the reasons why tourists prefer underwater diving tourism have been revealed. In order to achieve this aim, a semi-structured questionnaire consisting of 10 questions was prepared and 11 people who participated in underwater diving tourism were interviewed. As a result of the research, the participants stated that they travel 250-300 km from their place of residence for diving. In the research; It is seen that it prefers underwater diving tourism for taking photos, getting peace, getting to know underwater plants and animals, exploring different worlds, getting away from work stress. The most important effects of underwater diving tourism were found to be the sensation of excitement and pressure under water. However, the experience of gravitational environment and the feeling of peace have been shown to be among the effects of underwater diving tourism. As a result, the findings obtained in the research indicate important issues and it is thought that it is a data for the development of underwater diving tourism.
