Studying the Erosion Corrosion Behavior of NiCrAlY Coating Layer Applied on AISI 446 Stainless Steel Using Thermal Spray Technique

Abstract: Erosion-Corrosion behavior of NiCrAlY coatings deposited on 446 stainless steel samples by flame thermal spraying was performed in this research. The hardness of uncoated and coated sample is measured, using HVS-1000 Digital Micro hardness Tester. The results of hardness show that the coated samples have higher hardness than uncoated samples. Microstructure and phase analysis of the coating layer was observed by using optical microscope, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and SEM respectively. Erosion –Corrosion test wa… Show more

“…A coating can be defined as a near-surface region with qualities distinct from the bulk material on which it is deposited. Coatings can be placed on the surface of materials to protect them from the elements, which can cause corrosion and other deteriorative reactions and improve their appearance [4]. Although recent improvements in numerous new coating materials have evolved from advancements in coating technology, TiC, TiN, TiCN, and Al 2 O 3 are common coating materials [5].…”

“…The gases used to produce heat are usually oxygen and acetylene. The flare melts the coating material and is rapidly ejected to the substrate surface [1][2][3] Overlay metallic coating is performed by applying new materials onto the surface of an element. By adding one or even more strong metallurgically connected layers with the base material that has: mechanical, metallurgy, and chemistry able of ensuring barrier properties against the influence of corrosion, erosion and, different phenomena caused by the service.…”
