Study on the Dynamic Mechanical Properties of Viscoelastic Materials Based on Asymmetrical Sandwich Beams

Abstract: A modified estimation method for the dynamic mechanical properties of viscoelastic materials via asymmetrical sandwich specimens is presented. In contrast to the traditional vibrating cantilever beam test method (VCBTM), the proposed method allows asymmetrical base beams in sandwich specimens. Based on the complex stiffness method, complex parameters are introduced for general sandwich configurations. Calculation formulas for loss factor and shear modulus of the core material are presented. The effectiveness o… Show more

“…A standardized method for the characterization of the viscoelastic damping layer in a CLD laminate using a cantilever setup in a modal analysis also exists [12]. Nevertheless, many other studies have dealt with the optimization of the modal approach to improve the validity of the results [13][14][15]. Although the application of modal analyses has the advantage of being able to characterize the behavior in a mode-specific way, this results in the overlapping of effects of the frequency-dependent material behavior and the mode-specific CLD behavior.…”

“…The beam structures’ design method has been one of the main research objects in the field of vibration and noise control for many years [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]. Many scholars have done a lot of work in this field, trying to reduce vibration and noise through different methods [ 4 , 5 , 6 , 7 , 8 ]. Among these methods, phononic crystals have been introduced into the structural vibration reduction design due to the advantage of band gap characteristics [ 9 , 10 , 11 , 12 ].…”
