Study on Preparation and Properties of Glass Fibre Fabric Reinforced Polyphenylene Sulphide Composites

Abstract: In this paper, glass fiber fabric reinforced polyphenylene sulfide composites were prepared by hot pressing. The effects of glass fibre modification and hot pressing temperature on the properties of the composites were investigated using a scanning electron microscope, infrared spectrometer, universal testing machine, and DIGEYE digital imaging colour measurement system. The results show that after the treatment with a silane coupling agent, the silane coupling agent was more uniformly distributed on the surfa… Show more

“…The modification with silane coupling agent not only increases the flexural strength of the BFRPs but also slows down the degradation of its flexural properties in a corrosive aging environment, which can also be attributed to the increased interfacial bonding of the fibers to the resin and the tighter adhesion of the fibers to the resin, helping to reduce the volume occupied by cracks and voids formed during the fabrication and solidification of the composite [ 53 ]. Meanwhile, the hydroxyl group on the fiber surface reacts with the silicone, reducing its hydrophilicity and helping to slow down the debonding of the interface in corrosive aging environments [ 54 ].…”

“…The tensile strength of SMPC-KH560 was significantly better than other literature. 20,32 To explore the effect of silane coupling agent KH560 on the properties of knitted fabric-reinforced epoxy shape memory composites, the micromorphology of the tensile fracture cross section was observed using SEM. Figure 9(b) and (c) show the fiber tensile fracture.…”

“…Firstly, the blending of PPS with other polymer materials to enhance its toughness is a popular approach, with examples including combinations like LCP/PPS, 8,9 nylon 66/PPS, 10 and PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene)/PPS. 11 Alternatively, another method involves the incorporation of reinforcing fiber materials such as glass fibers (GFs) 12 and carbon fibers 13 into PPS, providing a strengthening and toughening effect. LCP resins, recognized for their excellent fluidity and superior mechanical properties, effectively enhance the mechanical performance of polymers by increasing crystallinity.…”
