Study of the Relationship between Biomass and Fractional Green Canopy Cover of Two Forage Crops Using Canopeo®

Abstract: Rapid and accurate estimation of biomass is crucial for the assessment of the crop nutrition status and the improvement of crop management strategies. The study was conducted in Setif province (Northeast of Algeria). Canopy cover was calculated using Canopeo® application, at stem elongation, booting, and heading stages for triticale, and V5, R1, and R3 for lentil. The results indicate a high correlation between canopy cover and triticale biomass, at the stem elongation stage with R2 = 0.98 and 0.89 under no ti… Show more

“…It turns the color green into white with a smooth manual adjustment and produces the percentage of white pixels in a given frame that corresponds to the pixels that meet the selection criteria green canopy (Campana et al 2023). The software Canopeo® permits rapid measurement and allows userfriendly measurements (Bourega et al 2023).…”

“…To evaluate the green coverage percentage, we used the Canopeo® system. Recently, the optical methods based on indirect and non-destructive canopy cover, especially in eld conditions (Hufkens et (Lu et al 2019;Bourega et al 2023) and in our case, in particular, to understand the right timing for weed control in sugarcane and to check the control e ciency of these weeds (itchgrass and morningglory) (Table 4). Our results highlight that the lowest index of Canopeo® (% green coverage) for the itchgrass was obtained by associations with indazi am.…”
