Study of a polyaniline/polypropylene collecting electrode and its particle removal efficiency

Abstract: In this study, we successfully prepared conductive polyaniline (PANI) on a polypropylene (PP) plate to produce novel collecting electrodes for the removal of fine particles.

“…The PIS curve in Figure shows the CV of the core nanofiber of PIS alone as the background CV; no redox processes could be observed in the potential window from −0.2 to 0.8 V. Furthermore, the PIS‐PANI curve in Figure shows the CV of the PANI on the PIS nanofiber mat. This curve clearly indicates the typically observed redox processes of PANI moieties in the potential window of −0.1 to 0.8 V . The oxidation peaks at ca.…”

“…The surface resistivity of the nanofiber mat measured using the standard four‐point probe method was 2 × 10 5 Ohm/sq. The order of resistivity is higher than that of the film of PANI; this may result from the difference in conducting path with respect to the surface between the nanofibers and film. However, because this situation is not so simple, its detailed discussion will be important and should be conducted in the future.…”

“…It can therefore achieve large air volume operation, which is extremely beneficial to improving the indoor environment. Third, like the electrostatic filter, the micro-electrostatic filter can achieve effective sterilization [19,26] and the ozone emission [20,38] is extremely low, so it will not cause indoor ozone pollution. Finally, the cylindrical micro-electrostatic filter has a lightweight structure and is easy to install.…”

“…However, after 50 days of operation, the PM2.5 filtration efficiency of a platetype micro-electrostatic filter drops to 50% [20]. This study also means that although the efficiency of a plate-type micro-electrostatic filter has reached the level of a medium-efficiency filter, its filter performance is challenging to regulate after it contains dust [14,20,38]. Therefore, improving the dust-holding capacity (DHC) of the micro-electrostatic filter is the key to its application in HVAC systems.…”

“…18,19 ESP devices consist of an electrode with a small radius of curvature and collecting plates. 20 These devices are typically designed in the wire-plate (parallel-plate ESP), 21 needle-plate, 22 or wire-duct (tubular ESP) 23 geometries. To generate corona discharges around the sharp edge, a high voltage with either positive or negative polarity is applied to the electrode.…”
