Studies on the synthesis and thermal properties of alkoxysilane‐terminated organosilicone dendrimers

Abstract: Silicone core dendrimers bearing terminal dialkoxy and trialkoxy silane groups were prepared in a three-step synthesis. Initially, the Si-H terminated multifunctional silicone dendrimer, i.e. tetrakis(dimethylsiloxy)silane, was prepared by the reaction of tetraethoxysilane and dimethylethoxysilane. Tetrakis(dimethylsiloxy)silane on reaction with allylglycidylether in the presence of Speier's catalyst under pressure (100 psi) yielded epoxy-terminated dendrimer in very high yield (95%). The epoxy-terminated dend… Show more

“…The signals can be assigned to -SiHA C H T U N G T R E N N U N G (CH 3 ) 2 and -SiHA C H T U N G T R E N N U N G (CH 3 ) 2 groups, respectively. [13] Two signals corresponding to -SiA C H T U N G T R E N N U N G (OCH 2 CH 3 ) 3 groups of 1 were hardly observed (3.86 and 1.24 ppm). These results indicate that dimethylsilylation of triethoxysilyl groups progressed without side reactions of Si À H groups under the strong acidic conditions.…”

“…Additionally, DMS-1 possesses 24 reaction sites (Si À H groups) on the surface. First, we characterized the molecular structure and thermal properties of DMS-1 by using solution 1 H, 13 C, and 29 Si NMR spectroscopy, MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry (MS), powder XRD, thermogravimetry-differential thermal analysis (TG-DTA), TG-DTA-MS, solid-state 29 Si magic angle spinning (MAS) NMR spectroscopy, and FTIR spectroscopy. Second, a DMS-1 cast film with highly ordered structure was prepared, and cross-linked by heating the film.…”

“…Siloxane‐based dendrimers were first produced through a step‐by‐step divergent growth methodology, which contain Si–O bonds, and with controllable molecular weight and low polydispersity are widely applied in a large variety of technological fields such as new materials syntheses in medicine, additive, coating, nanotechnology, macromolecular building block, and supramolecular science. However, these dendrimers are only synthesized via cumbersome, solvent‐intensive and multistep reaction routes.…”
