Abstract:Synopsis:Steel drums made of low carbon hot rolled steel sheet (1.2mm thick) filled with a methanol solution of vinyl resin sustained cracking at the beaded regions of drums after two months storage in the summer season when drums were stacked on their sides. The cracks first initiated at the inside surface of drums and propagated intergranually toward the thickness direction. A constant strain test and constant strain rate test were carried out in methanol solutions of vinyl resin to clarify the causes of dru… Show more
“…A very similar behaviour of oxygen and water is found for mild steel in methanol-formic acid solutions were small amounts of oxygen in the solution lead to stress corrosion cracking. In this case 0.1 wt% water was found to be an SCC accelerator, while if added in excess water became an SCC inhibitor [16].…”

The influence of water and oxygen concentration on stress corrosion cracking of steels in liquid ammonia. Vapor phase cracking in water‐inhibited ammonia storage spheres is also discussed.

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
