Automatic train protection (ATP) system is essential for ensuring the safe operation of high‐speed trains. However, the existing extensive and fixed maintenance mode of the ATP system results in a waste of resources. To achieve a state of operation and maintenance that ensures both protection capability and economic efficiency, a lean method in a dynamic maintenance mode for the full life cycle of the ATP system is proposed. Firstly, reliability tests are carried out based on historical failure data. The parameter values of the possible life distribution are estimated by maximum likelihood method, and the optimal life distribution of different devices is obtained through the Kolmogorov–Smirnov hypothesis test. Secondly, a dynamic failure rate function is introduced to describe the impact of maintenance on device performance. A refined maintenance model is then established within the life cycle, and the dynamically changing preventive maintenance intervals and frequencies are obtained using a genetic algorithm. Finally, to mitigate the impact of the intermittent operation of ATP system on maintenance, the multidimensional relationships among the maintenance strategy, service time and operation mileage are revealed. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified through an example test on a type of driver machine interface device.

Compliance to organizational standard is essential for maintaining high work performance within the appropriate timescale which can result in reduction of maintenance expenses. The purpose of this study was to analyze the compliance level of preventive maintenance activities based on job frequency and its working hours. Historical data of preventive maintenance from 2019 -2020 obtained from a field study at Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) Depot Batu Gajah, Perak, was analyzed to investigate the frequency, manhours, and the cost involved for each type of preventive maintenance activities namely Exam A, B C and D involving ETS Class 91. The examination concerning manhours compliance was conducted in accordance with the organization's standard, as specified in the KTMB Operation and Maintenance manual based on the highest duration of maintenance and labors. From the results, Exam A contributed to the highest non-compliance practice compared to the other Exam where the highest non-compliance percentage (32%) was recorded in 2020 which results in losses of RM RM2,552.82. This study is beneficial for the organization as it determines irregular downtime and manhours compliance for rolling stock system maintenance to shape for a better future maintenance plan that will results in efficient operation and higher revenue.

Urban transportation currently has a very important or crucial role because it is one of the factors that strongly support the ongoing economy. One of the transportation modes that is currently had a very high demand in Greater Jakarta is Kereta Rel Listrik (KRL). KRL need to provide not only availability and facility, but also focus on reliability and safety. Had a good operational strategy, especially in the maintenance of rolling stock should be done. Reliability centered maintenance (RCM) is one of approach to optimize the rolling stock maintenance practices given that several critical components have been operating for certain number of periods. The maintenance concept that focuses on reliability brings a good on determining treatment decisions or maintenance strategies. It is also minimized the technical problem in operation by knowing its failure mode. Purpose of this research is to provide an overview of the reliability concepts for rolling stock maintenance from several research journals. This paper contains of several up-todate literature for improving the effectiveness of rolling stock maintenance from each case of journals and papers. Future maintenance work is based on establishing reliability-based systems. To provide high reliability rolling stock, it is important to introduce reliability analysis methods and to make use of new management indices that consider the impact of faults on transport and cost performance.
