Patient Barriers to Mammography Identified During a Reminder Program

“…In particular, younger age, more recent health plan membership, lower family income, and obesity significantly reduced the odds of completing a mammogram. Our findings are consistent with findings from other studies, 10,13,15,33 including the finding that family income (and associated factors) appears to be a stronger predictor than race. However, this study serves to highlight that access to mammograms through health insurance and reminding patients that mammograms are due does not completely alleviate patient barriers.…”

Factors affecting mammography screening behaviour among rural Vietnamese women

“…In general, screening prevalence in this study was 16.7%, which is relatively low. This result is consistent with the findings of several studies showing that the rate of mammography screening remains extremely low in low-to-middle-income countries (Aflakseir & Abbasi, 2012;Shiryazdi et al, 2014;Yilmaz & Durmus, 2016 (Bonfill, Marzo, Pladevall, Marti, & Emparanza, 2011). These include a combination of invitation letters, mailed educational materials, and telephone calls, which have significantly increased the number of women receiving mammography screening.…”
