Statistically enriched geospatial datasets of Brazilian municipalities for data-driven modeling

Abstract: The lack of georeferencing in geospatial datasets hinders the accomplishment of scientific studies that rely on accurate data. This is particularly concerning in the field of health sciences, where georeferenced data could lead to scientific results of great relevance to society. The Brazilian health systems, especially those for Notifiable Diseases, in practice do not register georeferenced data; instead, the records indicate merely the municipality in which the event occurred. Typically in data-driven modeli… Show more

“…GIS to locate reported cases of dengue in Goiatuba (GO) allows the identification of the respective neighborhood where the disease occurred and in each year from 2010 to 2020. Furthermore, it favors verifying the location where dengue is most recurrent and a history of recurrence [2425].…”

“…It is worth noting that public data on diseases, outbreaks, epidemics, and pandemics from the Federal Government are generally recorded based on what occurs in each location. They can be considered at the level of street, neighborhood, or area of the city and are georeferenced [24].…”

“…This punctual observation, however, does not generalize to the municipality's territorial extension. Abdalla et al (2022) present datasets for Brazilian municipalities with different temporal resolutions and temporal coverages, including temperature and precipitation aggregated by the year, from 1981 to 2020. The adoption of yearly weather aggregation limits its usage.…”

“…It is also important to point that similar procedures are performed punctually as a methodological step by some researches to compute climate indicators on limited time spans to specific Brazilian municipalities or other boundaries in different countries (Lowe et al, 2011; Schneider et al, 2021; Abdalla et al, 2022). Usually, the adopted methodology is short described in the published papers and not directly reproducible.…”

“…The Trajetorias indicators can be used to assess environmental changes in the BLA during the first two decades of the XXI th century, and its association with vector borne diseases, poverty, and rural economy. The dataset can be easily integrated with other databases from Brazil, at the municipal level 80 . For future studies, we recommend harmonizing the Trajectories data set with annual environmental data provided by PRODES and DETER, both programs developed by INPE, and which can be accessed on the Terrabrasilis platform (http:// terrabrasilis.dpi.inpe.br/).…”
