Statistical properties of MPEG video traffic and their impact on traffic modeling in ATM systems

Abstract: M P E G video trafic is expected to cause several problems in ATM networks, both f r o m performance and from architectural viewpoint. For the solution of these difficulties, appropriate video traffic models are needed. A detailed statistical analysis of newly generated long M P E G encoded video sequences is presented and the results are compared to those of existing data sets.
