Spin-Trapping Reactions of a Novel Gauchetype Radical Trapper G-CYPMPO

Abstract: Chemical reactions of a novel gauchetype spin trap, G-CYPMPO (sc-5-(5,5-dimethyl-2-oxo-1,3,2-dioxaphosphinan-2-yl)-5-methy-1-pyrroline N-oxide, O1–P1–C6–N1 torsion angle = 52.8°), with reactive oxygen species were examined by pulse radiolysis technique with 35 MeV electron beam and by electron spin resonance spectroscopy after 60Co γ-ray irradiation. The spin-trapping reaction rate constants of G-CYPMPO toward the hydroxyl radical and the hydrated electron were estimated to be (4.2 ± 0.1) × 109 and (11.8 ± 0.2… Show more

“…After mixing, the tube was strongly shaken for 10 seconds. In this study, a novel radical trapper, {2-(5,5-dimethyl-2-oxo-1,3,2-dioxaphosphinan-2yl)-3,4-dihydro-2-methyl-2H-pyrrole N-oxide, G-CYPMPO}, was used to trap free radicals [17]. The chemical structure of G-CYPMPO is shown in Figure 2a.…”

“…The other solution was a hypoxanthine/xanthine oxidase (HX/XO) system solution to produce the superoxide radical (mixture of 1.8 vol% of 10.97 units/mL XO and 10 vol% of 20 mM HX). In this study, a novel radical trapper, G-CYPMPO [24], was used for trapping the free radicals.…”

“…Therefore, the apparent rate constant of the reaction of the hydroxyl radical with DMPO (k1) in this study cannot be directly compared to that obtained by pulse radiolysis. 3,14,15 Instead of the comparison with the absolute rate constant, the relative reaction rates for the hydroquinone values are compared, as listed in Table 1. The relative values obtained in this study are comparable to those of pulse radiolysis studies.…”
