Abstract:This chapter reviews studies of the physics of spin transfer in high magnetic fields in bilayer and single magnetic layer nanopillars. The focus is on phenomena associated with the action of spin currents on the background magnetization of thin nanometer‐scale ferromagnetic layers, known as
nanomagnets
. Spin currents are shown to lead to magnetic hysteresis in large fields perpendicular to the layers in bilayer nanopillars. This is consistent with the standard model of spin transfer wi… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
