A new series of polyurea derivatives and its nanocomposites were synthesised by the solution polycondensation method through the interaction between 4(2-aminothiazol-4-ylbenzylidene)-4-(tert-butyl) cyclohexanone and diisocyanate compound in pyridine. The PU 1-3 structure was confirmed using Fourier transform-infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and characterised by solubility, viscometry, gel permeation chromatography (GPC), and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. In addition, PU 1-3 was evaluated by TGA. Polyurea-TiO 2 nanocomposites were synthesised using the same technique as that of PU 1-3 by adding TiO 2 as a nanofiller. The thermal properties of PU 2 TiO 2 ad were evaluated by TGA. Moreover, the morphological properties of a selected sample were examined by SEM and TEM. In addition, PU 1-3 and PU 2 TiO 2 ad were examined for antimicrobial activity against certain bacteria and fungi. The PU 1-3 showed antibacterial activity against some of the tested bacteria and fungi, as did PU 2 TiO 2 ad , which increased with the increase in TiO 2 content. Furthermore, molecular docking studies were displayed against all PU 1-3 derivatives against two types of proteins. The results show that the increase in the strength of π-H interactions and H-donors contributed to improved binding of PU2 compared to PU1 andPU 3. The docking of 1KZN against the tested polymers suggests an increase in the docking score of PU 2, then PU 1 , and PU 3 , which is in agreement with the antibacterial study.

Several metal diimine complexes have been reported to possess anticancer properties. To evaluate the anticancer properties of tetrahedral zinc(II) diimine complexes, six complexes were synthesized with the general formula M(N^N)Cl2 {where M = Zn, Pt and N^N = 2,2’-biquinoline (1), 2,2’-dipyridylketone (2) and 4-((pyridine-2-ylmethylene)amino)phenol (3)}. In general, the intrinsic DNA-binding constants for the different compounds exhibited values within close proximity; the changes in the viscosity of the CT-DNA upon binding to the compounds suggest intercalation-binding mode. Molecular docking study predicted that complexes containing the highly planar ligand 2,2’-biquinoline are capable to establish π–π interactions with nucleobases of the DNA; the other four complexes engaged in donor–acceptor interactions with DNA nucleobases. The six complexes and two reference drugs (cisplatin and sunitinib) were tested against two cancer cell lines (COLO 205 and RCC-PR) and one normal cell line (LLC-MK2), highlighting the better performance of the zinc(II) complexes compared to their platinum(II) analogues. Moreover, zinc(II) complexes have higher selectivity index values than the reference drugs, with promising anticancer properties.

Pyridine (py) is an important heterocyclic compound and is an integral part of various natural products. There are various medicines containing py ring system being available in the market to combat different human ailments. Observing the medicine market, Omeprazole, a widely used py-based drug in medicinal market since 1998. Netupitant (an antiemitic drug, since 2014) is used in combination with another drug to prevent acute and delayed vomiting and nausea associated with cancer chemotherapy led the run towards development of anticancer drugs. Several drugs have been approved by FDA for the treatment of cancer in recent years such as, Abemaciclib (2015), Lorlatinib (2018), Apalutamide (2018) and Ivosidenib (2019). Research on py on the bases of these advancements is an evergreen field and associated with greater hopes to address several disease related issues. Several compounds are in the process of clinical trials and are expected to serve various purposes in days to come. This review article deals with recent findings in py chemistry and its coordination complexes. The medicinal efficiency has been argued for organic and inorganic derivatives. Selected biological applications are hereby discussed as follow up study of our report in 2015. Suitable literature prior to 2015 has also been incorporated in appropriate places in order to cover the scope in broader sense.
