Soybean (Glycine maxL. Merrill) Seed Drying in Fixed Bed: Process Heterogeneity and Seed Quality

Abstract: Soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.) is the most important oilseed in the world market.Seed quality has direct influences on the success of the crop and contributes significantly to productivity levels. The quality of soybean seeds can be influenced by several factors during drying. This study evaluated the drying of soybean seeds in a fixed bed dryer, considering the heterogeneity of the process and the effect of process variables on seed quality. Seed and air temperatures, seed moisture and seed quality were mea… Show more

“…As seen in Figure 7, the particle behavior for Model II was as expected for the packed bed configuration, with no particle movement, as stated by Souza, Miranda, and Barrozo (2015). Thus, considering particle behavior, Model II was better suited for the modelling of the fixed bed.…”

“…However, we previously reported that the upper limits of drying temperature for rice seeds increased with decreasing seed IMC (Huang et al, 2020b). It was worth noting that seed harvested with lower IMC will show less impact of HTD (Hasan et al, 2014;Souza et al, 2015).…”

“…The effect of mechanical drying on seed vigor has been reported in crops, such as rice (Huang et al, 2020a,b), corn (Jittanit et al, 2010), soybean (Souza et al, 2015), and wheat (Ueno, 2003). While the studies mentioned above primarily focused on the seed vigor after drying but did not monitor the dynamic process of seed vigor deterioration during storage.…”
