Abstract

Continuing to threaten human lives, COVID-19 has not only affected public health, but the social, economic and political repercussions of the health crisis deeply influenced all areas of individual and social life. Hence, academic interest in COVID-19 rapidly increased, triggering a wave of scientific research of significant dimensions within a short time. Significant number of studies published led to the exponential growth of the literature on COVID-19. In this regard, the present study aimed to present an overview of global COVID-19 research in sociology. In the study, bibliometric analysis method was employed to determine the social, intellectual and conceptual structure of the sociology literature related to COVID-19. Citation, co-citation, bibliographic coupling, co-author and coword analyzes were applied to the data set containing 890 articles obtained from the Web of Science database. A graphical depiction of the field of research was presented through the network maps obtained as a result of these analyzes using the VOSviewer software, so that the patterns in the field of research were determined with a macro-level approach. According to the results of the study, the dominant language in the field of research is English. Approximately 70% of the articles in the dataset are the joint product of two or more authors. The most influential writer in the related field is Haiyan Song, the most influential journal is European Societies, and the most influential country is the USA.
