“…Prospective data in patients with diabetes are limited: sE‐selectin levels measured from postprandial blood samples were significantly related to 6‐year incident cardiovascular disease in 392 Japanese patients with Type 2 diabetes [10]. Our work confirms these findings in higher‐risk Caucasian patients and extends this work by showing that this relationship is present for both coronary heart disease and cardiovascular disease events.…”

“…However, previous studies reported that sE-selectin concentrations were significantly increased in T2DM patients with CVDs compared with T2DM patients without CVDs. 13,14 The high level of sE-selectin observed in both diabetic groups compared with controls may be due to endothelial activation and inflammation in response to hyperglycemia; this activation and inflammation may occur regardless the presence or absence of CVDs. 15 In 2014, Sandoval-Pinto et al 16 evaluated serum levels of sE-selectin in 283 patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and compared them with levels in 205 healthy subjects.…”

“…We could not find any difference in adhesion molecule levels according to the history of CVD. Circulating E-selectin was found to be associated with the severity of coronary artery disease in sporadic crosssectional analyses 15 , and to predict cardiovascular events in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus 16 , but in other studies performed so far in patients with overt CVD, no clear-cut association emerged. [17][18][19][20][21][22] E-selectin was not associated with carotid atherosclerosis in a recent study in ESRD patients, 23 and did not predict adverse outcome in such patients.…”
